Old Dog / New Tricks
Did you ever think you were too old to learn something new? I definitely have thought it about myself, others and even our sweet dog, Cassie. Well, I'm here to say she has proven us all wrong! Not only has our 11-year-old black lab learned to "shake" just a couple of years ago, but she also became a "lake dog" at age 10 and is loving it!!
Although Cassie has never enjoyed being on a moving object, like a car, for example, she took her first boat ride just last year (age 70 in dog years). Although she did not take to the doggy life vest (required for all new canine boat riders), she took it all in stride and thoroughly enjoyed the wind in her face and the brush of thousands of animal and insect smells against her snout along the way. Our family is so proud of her for trying something new, and now whenever we say the word, "lake," she starts wagging her tail and gets up immediately from her resting position with eager ears and bright eyes. She has a new love.
Are there things in your life you always wanted to do but you're afraid you've passed your prime? Well, I don't know who coined the phrase, "You can't teach an old dog new tricks," but they are dead wrong! Take it from Cassie and former President George H.W. Bush, who bravely went skydiving from an airplane on his 90th birthday! You're never too old to learn something new!
